Kontact cannot open .doc document

My whole family is using Kontact as their PIM and Open Office for documents etc. Now we have one strange problem. When in contact reading mail with an MS-Office .doc attachment and opening this attachment using Open Office ... we get the error File not found /tmp/kde-arjan/.....
It actually looks like the right document but for some strange reason it's just not there.

The funny thing is ... sometimes we can read it, and sometimes we get the above error. Anybody knows what's going on ... and how to get it working (my wife is already trying to get back to software from Redmond :-(

Version info:
uname -a: Linux xantia 2.6.16.21-0.13-default #1 Mon Jul 17 17:22:44 UTC 2006 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
KDE: 3.5.1 level "a"
Kontact: 1.2
OpenOffice: 2.0 Novell edition (Build 2.0.2.150

RE: Kontact cannot open .doc document

Everytime you open such a document, a temporary file is created to let OpenOffice view it. However, the file is deleted as soon you switch to another mail inside Kontact. So wait until OpenOffice is loaded and has the document in it's memory before you view another e-mail message.

Hi!

I'm having the same problem... I verified that when using CrossOffice applications, the file created temporarily is almost immediatly removed, and so the file can't be opened! I guess this is a CrossOffice integration problem, as the problem doesn't occur with "native" KDE applications.

Is there any solution for may problem? Some way of saying "don't ever delete downloaded attachments", because /tmp is cleared when the machine boots , so no problem having attachments stored for a while!

Thanks in advance...

I Also have to note that the problem in my environment is also NOT disappaered. It often happens that an attachement cannot be opened .. and I didn't skipped to another mail.
However I can't find out what I need to do to reproduce the problem.
However .. I don't give up !! I let you all know when I've managed to reproduce it.

RE: Kontact cannot open .doc document

I think it's (at least on my side) reproduceable. If I open Kontact I will see in the preview window containing the current mail. If this mail contains an attachement (e.g. .doc) and I click on it, it will ask me if it should be saved/opened/canceled. In case of open it should open in OpenOffice (in my case) however if OpenOffice is already running I get the error /tmp/kde-arjan..... does not exist.

If I then close OO and I click on the attachement and select open .. it opens in OO as expected. It seems that kontact behavious different depending on the status of OO

I don't think this is an expected behaviour of kontact ... any comments???
