How to disable timeout for tooltips?

I am not sure whether this is a QT or KDE question. I would like to disable the timeout for all tooltips in KDE, so that tooltips never hide on their own. I find it highly irritating when a tooltip times out and disappears while I am trying to read its contents. If I am done with the tooltip, I can move the pointer off of the item which triggered the tooltip.

I have searched the KDE Control Center and grepped the KDE configuration files in my home directory to no avail, so now I ask you: how can I disable the timeout for *all* tooltips in KDE? My definition of "KDE" includes at least Kicker and Konqueror.

I am using KDE v3.5.3 on Gentoo Linux with x11-libs/qt v4.1.4 on an i686-class PC.

Thanks,
Brolin

RE: How to disable timeout for tooltips?

No, this is not possible. Tooltips come from Qt and the timeout is hardcoded in the source.

:/

That is what I feared. I did some more research after posting, and was expecting the same answer as your reply. I have asked the same question on the qt-interest mailing list. I will reply here if I get a different answer from this list.

Will qt4 allow to change this? I find it irritating too.

As I stated in my original post, I am using Qt 4.x. I am not aware of any way to change the timeout delay.

I still have not received any replies to my post on the qt-interest mailing list.

kriko: If this issue irritates you too, would you consider asking about disabling the tooltip timeout on qt-interest? Maybe someone will be more inclined to reply if they see that I am not the only one to ask this question.
