Symbolic Link

I am using KDE 3.5.3 and Dapper Dan. I am trying to make a symbolic link to java. When I do this the shell says it already exists. The link is in place but says as "type" unknown and has a question mark on the face as do several other links in the same place. It also is locked and I don't know if that is how it should be or if I need to change permissions. If I need to change permissions I will need help. I go to root but cannot change the libjavaplugin_oji.so
Thanks
Dick

You could try to delete the existing but broken symlink and create a new one.
This should be done as root (or with sudo) since it is a system file.

You can also check the integrity of the link first with
ls -l /pad/to/link
