Dual Setup. Avoid loading kde on second screen.

Hi Guys,

I have a dual screen setup.
Screen :0.0 for desktop (CRT)
Screen :0.1 for Multimedia Apps like freevo. (TV)

This setup works fine.
But I want to avoid that kde is also running on my second screen.
I do not need a desktop manager on that second screen.
Because I run Freevo fullscreen on my TV.

Is it posable config kde that it only runs on the first screen?
What I see is that for every screen, kde starts a process for it.

Great,

Me

You should try to figure out how to configure X Windows to use only one screen

If FragMaker wants to run his full-screen app in the other display,
then he'd probably start it with something like
>myapp -display :0.1
but if he configures X to use just one display, then display :0.1
won't exist.

Respectfully disagreeing with Rinse, I'd say he needs to configure X
for both screens and KDE for one screen only.

The question is, how? He seems to have cracked the X part already,
but the KDE part has him stuck, and me too.

Is it truly impossible to control how (and whether) KDE starts up
on the second screen? Can anyone even hint at where the config
files for KDE on the second screen might be?

Dual screen works,

Problem is that i don't need any taskbar or other stuff of kde on my second screen.
Freevo starts and runs on the second screen.

What I want is that KDE do not start processes for the second screen.
That saves me memory and cpu time.
And I control freevo with my remote control.

Solved

After more trawling, found a tip from a couple of months ago on the Admin forum.
http://www.kde-forum.org/post/57994/lastpost.html#post57994

At first, I thought changing the environment variable KDE_MULTIHEAD
from true to false would do the trick, but it doesn't - kcminit overrides it
at start time.

It seems you need to edit your kcmdisplayrc file
(mine is at ~/.kde/share/config/kcmdisplayrc, yours may vary)
to find or create the [X11] section so that it reads

[X11]
disableMultihead=true

Now, display :0.1 is completely blank, with no kde stuff on it at all,
but you can still use it to run your app.
