KDE logout kills service

Hi all,

I'm having the following problem and I will appreciate any help you can provide me.

We have a Java-based server, which is registered as a service.
If the service is started from KDE (logged in as root), system-config-services GUI - it will be killed when I perform KDE logout. Which is bad :-)
If the service is started from terminal, using "service *** start" - it isnt killed by KDE on logout.
If the service is started from KDE application launcher applet (a command line integrated into KDE panel ) - it is killed.

How can I tell KDE not to kill system service it just started, on logout?

Thanks,
Yoni
