display file names question

Hi :-)

I have strange problem: because of some old historical reasons, some my files templates names are started with the ! (exclamation) or _ (underscore) character, for example !template.html. Just for easy sorting in directory. I use KDE 3.2.2 with Debian Sarge and all is OK.
On my another box with Debian Etch and KDE 3.5.2 files with names as "!file" are not shown in any File->Open dialog window of KDE application, as for example Kedit or Kwrite or Konqueror.

Hidden files as ".file" are displayed without problem.

Non-native KDE applications, as Firefox browser display all names starting with ! or _ correctly.

What am I missing in my configuration? Any idea, where to start?
Thanks + greetings :-)
