kmail configuration page blank

Something must be missing from my kmail installation. I am unable to configure kmail because the configuration page is blank, i.e., there are no input prompts; no icons or selection buttons. When I first loaded Kontact, the mail client would not load and I got an error message saying that "libkmailpart.la" could not be found. Then I found that kmail had not been installed, which I did. Everything seems to be there except for the kmail configuration page. I have been unable to find "libkmailpart.la" and I don't know whether it is a requirement for configuring kmail. I'll appreciate your help and suggestions.

I am running under Kubuntu and have kde version 3.4.3

RE: kmail configuration page blank

How did you install KMail? With Kubuntu packages or did you compile it by source. KMail really needs the library you're referring to.

Can you run kbuildsycoca and see if it solves the problem? If not, does the command line say anything useful when you run KMail from it?

RE: kmail configuration page blank

Bram,
Thanks for your response. That worked. Now I have the configuration page and I'm setting it up. When II ran kbuildsycoca I got a whole string of warnings the last of which I copied below, I don't have a clue to what they mean but I got the result I needed. I'm downloading the latest KDE build, which I guess I'll go ahead and install. Thanks again for your help

Jerry

RE: kmail configuration page blank

Nothing to really worry about, unless some other parts of your KDE installation are disfunctional.
