unable to type

Hi,

what started out as a nuisance became a frustration. I'm using KDE3.5 with Mandriva2006 and sometimes it becomes impossible for me to type inside applications like firefox, thunderbird, kate, ... With this I mean that I can move the window, click buttons, paste text, ... but I cannot type (for example, the URL). The only way to get this resolved is to restart the application.

What's more worrying is that after upgrading from 3.4.1 to 3.5 this is constantly happening when I lock KDE (kdesktop_lock). I cannot type in the unlock-window (no **** appear and I even tried to type my password anyway thinking that it's just the *** not showing, but it's not the case). I can click on the buttons switch, unlock, cancel. To resolve this I have to go to a console and kill this process. (which for some reason sometimes messes up my X, but that's another story).

This does not happen when I'm running as root. I already checked kcheckpass and it's credentials seem ok:
-rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 13636 Dec 19 11:37 kcheckpass

I don't know if kdesktop_lock needs a special property. Currently it's:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 176776 Dec 19 11:37 kdesktop_lock

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Sven.
