koffice (lib kofficecore): ERROR: Couldn't find the native MimeType in kspread's desktop file. Check

When I attempt to start kspread I get the following error:

koffice (lib kofficecore): ERROR: Couldn't find the native MimeType in kspread's desktop file. Check your installation !

This is on Gentoo.

I've tried a bunch of things including
unmerging KDE 3.4 with equery list kde-base/ | grep 3.4 | xargs emerge --unmerge

removing ~/.kde

removing ~/.kde3.4

removing ~/.kderc

removing /tmp/kde-user /tmp/ksocket-user /tmp/mcop-user
/var/tmp/kdecache-user

emerging 3.4.1.
I didn't emerge all of 3.4.1. Just enough to get kspread and the dependencies it pulled in.

I don't know what to do about this. There isn't much info on google and what info there is, is for earlier versions of KDE. One thread said to run

kbuildsyscoca

and that gives me screens and screens of these types of errors:

kbuildsycoca: WARNING: 'kmplayer_part.desktop' specifies undefined mimetype/servicetype 'video/x-avi'
kbuildsycoca: WARNING: '/usr/share/applications/bluefish.desktop' specifies undefined mimetype/servicetype 'text/x-javascript'

It seems since I've removed everything and get the error after a resintall that there's a settings file that isn't getting updated.

Any ideas out there?

I have the same problem right now with kde 3.5.1 and koffice 1.4.2 on Ubuntu Dapper. Anyone got advice to fix? Thanks!

I don't know if I can help much.... but my problem eventually went away by adding more KDE components. I had slimmed down KDE too much. I can't imagine you'd have that problem with Dapper though since it would take care of the dependencies automatically. Since it is Dapper can you file a bug report? Maybe there really is something wrong and it's not necessarily your system. I wish I could remember what it was I added back in. Seems like it was one of the underlying core pieces that are the foundation of KDE.

thanks for the advice taylor. yeah, it should be taken care of dependencies - I've hesitant to file a bug report though because my system has been hacked quite a bit. It was originally a gnome install, then I tried to remove as much of gnome as possible (didn't like the application clutter) and then I had to reinstall some gnome apps again etc ...

well what do you know, I just tried it again today and it works!
