I don't feel like this has always been the case, but for me at least (running kubuntu breezy and KDE 3.5) selecting multiple files/items in Konqueror, gwenview, and just about every "icon view" style window doesn't behave correctly. I'm used to using "shift" to select multiple files, as has worked since Windows 3.1 or whatever: click on the first file, shift-click on the last file, and everything in between is selected. Instead, a box outlined by the first and last files--based exclusively on the current icon arrangement!--is selected. Which, to me, is nonsensical: when would I ever want to select a 'box' of files determined only by the current view, rather than selecting a sequential sequence of files? If I use the keyboard--holding shift and using the arrow keys to seek to the last file I want--the selection behaves as expected, but this is clunky for, e.g. selecting hundreds of images in a Thumbnail view using the scrollbar to find what I want. Is the unusual behavior when using the mouse a bug, or some sort of 'feature'? If so, how can I revert to standard behavior? And why do I keep trying to spell 'behavior' with a 'u'?
As an aside, it's been fantastically difficult to search for information about this--I can't seem to come up with terms to look for.
