"The KDE Window Manager" popup

Hello,

I really love KDE and have it working on my box now. Would someone please tell me how to turn off the rectangular popup balloon that appears in the top left corner saying "The KDE Window Manager" whenever I change application focus (an alt-tab does it)? It wasn't turned on before but for some reason it is now, I don't know why. I've searched all over the configure screens but can't find out how to turn it off. It comes up a lot and it's not telling me anything I don't already know, I'm using KDE. :)

Thanks for your help!
JJ

ps. using KDE 3.5 on kubuntu 5.10.

RE: "The KDE Window Manager" popup

Control Center -> Desktop -> Window behaviour - select focus tab, at the bottom is a check box `pop-up desk name on desktop switch'.

RE: "The KDE Window Manager" popup

Thanks Lethe for your tip and help. That checkbox was already not selected. I tried it clicked, applied that, and the behavior didn't change. I put it back to unselected. I don't believe it is telling me which desktop I'm using because it just says "The KDE Window Manager" - not which desktop I'm using.

BTW, I've turned off the virtual desktop selector in the task bar because I don't really need it.

Any other ideas please? Every time I switch to another window a balloon popup appears in the top left corner of my screen with that text - - - "The KDE Window Manager". I would really like to turn it off.

Thanks in advance,
Jonathan

RE: "The KDE Window Manager" popup

I found the solution to this. Under "System Settings" then "Sound & Multimedia" I clicked the "System Notifications" panel. I then scrolled down to 'Virtual desktop one is selected" and clicked 'advanced'. I then put an X in "Play a sound" and picked a sound. I then clicked apply and this fixed it.

No, I didn't have the box checked for "Mark taskbar entry" under the advanced setting but I have a feeling that this setting is what got reset when I did this. It seems to be a bug, but I could be mistaken. Anyway, it's fixed now. Very obscure, imho.

Would closing KDE by pressing ctrl-alt-backspace leave these settings in an odd state if I was changing them? I remember that I was changing the KDE sounds when this symptom started. This is my only guess as to how this started to happen.

RE: "The KDE Window Manager" popup

I see. If you look in that 'advanced' area there is a 'show a message in pop-up window'. I think KDE got confused somehow. I bet if you turn the sound off now, the pop-up will still be gone.

I don't think killing X will affect KDE settings, as you have to 'apply' and 'OK' after changing them - so they should be saved OK. It might bugger up a bit if you killed X whilst in the middle of a setting menu.
