Changing read/write mode of HD

I have 3 hard drives, all windows ntfs. I used kanotix and it could read from them no problem. I am now using Kubuntu, and only root can read them. I tried changing the permissions, but that doesn't work because root can't even change them! What can I do to make the drives accessible by a normal user? Thanks

Maybe you should ask on an Ubuntu forum instead. Seems to be a system setup issue.
