problems re-installing

problems re-installing

I very carefully copied my .kde directory hoping to save my addresses and e-mails when I did an upgrade to the operating system. I've now copied back what I presume are the key directories and files from my carefully saved .kde directory but have the following two prolems:

address book - although I can see my addresses I can't open them
E-mails - when I click an old e-mail it disappears into "no subject". It seems as if I have copied across the headings but not the substance of the e-mails.

What do I need to copy to get my original addresses and e-mails back in working order? ;(

Maybe you have wrong ownership or permission flags on the files.

For example when copying files and having a different user ID on the two machines.

I usually use a tar archive for the transit to avoid that.

I kept the same ID etc as far as I know. But your suggestion for a way of doing this in the future is helpful.

Just to let the list know that I solved the problem by "importing" both contacts and e-mails rather than trying to copy the files. I'm sure there is a better way but at least I survived by doing things this way.
