I wish there was a few Windows themes

I'm going to be installing my first Linux distro in a few days. One thing I would like to be able to do is make my desktop look like Windows 98, 2000, or XP. I think Microsofts desktops look good. I was searching on this site but I didn't find any Windows based themes. This is something I think should be added.

I think the standard Windows style is called "Redmond"

Well I typed in Redmond in the Search box but it came up empty. I don't think there are any Windows themes here.

Hi,

what anda_skoa ment is, that 'Remond' is a standard-theme in KDE.
I think it's also available for gnome or something else ;)

KDE does include a style called "MS Windows 9x" that is similar to the theme from Windows 95/98/2000 (I think that the wizard that runs the first time you log in refers to it as "Redmond").

Many other themes and customizations contributed by the KDE community can be found at KDE-Look.org.

After a theme is downloaded, how do I install it in KDE?

If it is a widget style, you need to compile and install it. Untar it to any directory, open a console there, run "./configure --prefix=`kde-config --prefix`", then "make" and then "su -c 'make install'" (enter root password when prompted). Restart KDE, launch Control Center, under Appearence select Style, select it from the popup list, click "Apply".

If it is a theme, open Control Center, under Appearence select Theme Manager, click "Install new themes", select the file. Viola!
