Kword backup file

new to Koffice and Kword. Each time I create a document in Kword a backup file is also created, but, not sure what format it's in, what to do with it, etc.
Also, it will not open. Receive error message KDEInit could not launch <filename>.

What's up?

Thanks

RE: Kword backup file

Just go into options and turn auto backup off if you dont want it
If kword crashes or your computer its just the last good save so kword can go back if required!
emerge it

the file is not in a certain format, just rename it back to the original (eg original~ to original.kwd).
