kuser problem

I'm on kubuntu and when trying to add a user with kuser I get

" Cannot create home directory, it is null or empty "

I can add users using the terminal but when trying to log in using the newly created user I get, several dcop errors and it boots me back out to the login screen and yes I did fill out the appropriate fields when adding user via kuser.
