[Kontact/KMail] disappearing New Message icon

In Kontact 1.1 (installed with KDE 3.4), I have a problem with the New Message icon disappearing from the toolbar everytime I switch from the Mail component to another component of Kontact, such as Summary.

If I then check Settings / Configure Toolbars, I see that the icon is still supposed to be displayed. If I click "Apply", it shows up again. Then when I click to component other than the Mail component, it disappears again.

Strangely, this isn't happening with any other icons.

Is it an insect? Or is it me? Thanks for your help.

Some additional info:

The New Message icon appears properly if I open only KMail. However, if I access KMail from within Kontact, then the icon does not appear. This seems to have something to do with the fact that Kontact has several different toolbars which are separately configurable. I'm thinking there's some sort of conflict among them.

If anyone has a solution to this, I'm all ears (well, eyes, since this is a print medium). Thanks.
