Where did my root go??? SuSE 9x

Lord im goion nuts.........
Ok Im not a newbie but still to used to DOS than Linux so please mind me. I updated my Suse 9.1 to KDE 3.4 the other day but I get " Cannot log in as root" Whay is that? In text mode ( because the onboard video card stinks) the installation does not require a logon name just a password for the root. So after the updat I got locked outta my system. But what or why is the reason for not being able to log in as root???

You must have disallowed logging in as root into kde (or the package maintainer did that for you), which is a good thing :) Press CTRL+F1, log in as root and add a regular user. You should never use root if you don't have to -- and you certainly don't need root to launch kde :)

Thanks for the hot tip. I know you do not have to log in as root, but I do for some reason, mostly just to install updates or add-ons.
